Re: good boat movies?

Can't believe nobody has mentioned Deep Water - its a documentary about an overzealous engineer turned yacht designer and sailor. Guy designs and build his own trimaran with little to no sailing experience - perfect for this forum He entered the 1968 round-the-world yacht race, and I wont tell you how it ends. It's on NetFlix.

Hawthorn didn't design nor built the trimaran
She was design and built by 2 yards in Britain
He designed the electronics systems (yes already in1968) but they were never installed.

As we circumnavigated, we did dvd swaps and you can't believe how many cruisers had Captain Ron. Leaving again in Oct 2013 and my old dvd of Captain Ron is going also.

Re: good boat movies?

I know the man who was the real English teacher on Albatross and the last person to escape the sinking ship as she went down. The story of the sinking is a terrific yarn but he says the movie was all Hollywood, not at all accurate. Title is maybe Last Voyage of Albatross?

This thread is dejavoo all over again.

Father Goose is my favorite.

Assault On A Queen is a good Frank Sinatra film.

Journey To The Center Of The Earth for a lighthearted look at an obscure ocean, with Pat Boon & Gertrude.

Yes, I agree....beautiful boat, but it all fell apart when Kevin Costner leaped from his single-handed beautiful boat in a storm without a life jacket to save floundering people in the water. This has to be the most stupid boating scene on film!

Thanks, I'm just about out of good Netflix movies. I'll look for that one.

I couldn't believe that either. I was shouting, "You idiot!" at the screen when that happened.

Re: good boat movies?

Captain Ron, of course, but Summer Rental, with John Candy is just as good and also features sailing as a central theme.
