Breaking Point, classic Hemingway with John Garfield as the skipper. It is a better adaption of the original with Bogart & Bacall. Sorry I forget the title of the book and original movie.

Captain Ron is excellent.

To Have and Have Not.

African Queen. Bogart played captain in several good ones.

One of my all time favorites. As also mentioned, Moby Dick is another Sailing Classic.
The Hunt for Red October? LOVED IT! A great Boat movie, just not sailing, but then again, the title of this thread just says Good Boat Movies.

Re: good boat movies?

"Dove" . Cheesy but a good flick and true story although "Hollywoodized". Available on Netflix and probably Amazon.

"And The Sea Will Tell", made-for-television movie based on the book and real life events. I have not been able to find it for rent. Disturbing book but engrossing read.

"Deep Water" the story of Donald Crowhurst, documentary that is again disturbing but fascinating. Available on Netflix.

Re: good boat movies?

"They Were Expendable" about PT boats in the Phillipines. True story and very authentic (they were working on them and trying to keep them running almost all of the time).

Re: good boat movies?

for all the Captain Ron fans, Kurt Russell did another movie with Goldie Hawn called Overboard. it's not really a boating movie, but it starts out on a yacht and is absolutely hilarious.
