Galveston Liveaboard Marina Needed

Hi All,

We have lived aboard now for about 18 years and traveled a lot. We are arriving in Galveston Bay in a few days for the first time, and need a place to stay. We have been self insured for most of this time, and are currently without any. I would like to get surveyed and subsequently insured, but need a marina first. Any suggestions will be apppreciated. Need recommendations for a marina, and a good surveyor. I'll also need to haul the boat for the survey and would like to do the bottom at the same time. We would like to
do it ourselves if possible.

Thank You,

Norm

Great marinas in Clear Lake Shores.....Haul out at Hillman's and you can work on your own boat. Clear Lake north of Galveston. Surveyor: R. L. "Dick" Frenzel 713-419-8855 Tell him that Winfield Nagle "River Rose" recommended.

Until you get at least liability, I can't think of a single marina that will let you come in without a minimum of $300k in liability.

If you have your liability in place, the best marina depends on what you are looking for. Are you looking for lower slip fees or are you willing to pay a little more in order to get nicer amenities. Do you want a quieter marina or a more socially oriented one? How important is access to deep water?

Paul Fannin is at Dixieland Marine along with Dick Frenzel and I can recommend Paul id Dick's schedule doesn't line up with yours. Yacht Surveys, Inspections, & Appraisals - Dixieland Marine,

I feel like I'm in a catch 22 situation. I have Liability of 300K approved subject to a survey. Can't get into a marina to get a survey without the insurance. Can a bond be used? If so how do I arrange that?

Re: Galveston Liveaboard Marina Needed

Thank You all for the help. We have been talking to ClearLake Marine Center, but was afraid to broach the insurance subject. Will continue and also if necessary call Marina Del Sol.

I would like to end this thread here if possible. Thank You again for the quick and helpful responses.

Just a note on Marina Del Sol. If your draft is any where near 5' you won't get in there. Just take your boat into Clear Lake Marine Center and get your survey and bottom job done. Then get liability and then shop for a marina.

Progressive will sell liability insurance with no survey. And it's relatively cheap.

Marina del sol is accessible with 5 to 5.5 draft if you watch tides. We draft 4.5 and Iade it back in on a negative tide last week pushing mud until past the breakwater.

State Farm will sell you coverage without a survey, if you already do business with them.
