Freshwater lake Live Aboards

I am possibly looking to do a live aboard on a freshwater lake instead of the ocean. Does anyone know where this can be done in a warm state such as Texas, Florida, or maybe Arizona? I will be using about a 35' powerboat.

A place you might consider is Crystal River Area in Florida. Fresh water river yet access to the ocean. The Manatees will keep you entertained too.

What will you do with your sewage?

You moor you boat at a marina year round and take it out for fun. Sewage, water, electric is all taken care of.

you are not TECHNICALLY allowed to live aboard on most of the freshwater lakes in Texas (at least the ones in the Dallas area) as they are all owned by the Army Corps of Engineers or some such government organization. They are almost all man-made lakes which supply drinking water to the area. Of course there are ways around it...talk with folks around the marinas...but then, who'd want to actually LIVE near Dallas, right? There are much prettier areas of the country, with much nicer lake. This is the voice of experience speaking here, by the way...

Most people live on the edge,- neither in the ocean or far into freshwater lakes. Many places are tidal estuaries that have brackish water with mixed salinity. Many are in ocean ports that are of ocean salinity or in ocean transit. If you were in Florida, places that have less salinity, but ocean access are: Pensacola Bay, St. Marks River, Tampa Bay and nearby estuaries, Port Charlotte, Fort Myers and to Lake Okechobee; Ft. Laudedale's New River, Stuart and to Lake Okechobee, Palm Coast, The St. John's River, and other places that I've overlooked.

Check our Clear Lake in California. Proximate to Napa valley's north end. Popular bass lake. Generally rural & surrounded by high mountains. Local small town & vintners.

Many spring fed fresh water streams in Florida on the Gulf.

We live on the Great Lakes. Great except for the water gets stiff about now.

Lake Washington near Seattle? Lake Powell? TVA Lakes? Ten-Tom?

In the 80s we were NOT allowed to stay on our boat (a Catalina 22) in the marina in Nice at the north end of the lake. Check carefully. Otherwise, a great place. We learned to anchor out for our weekend and holiday visits.

Not sure how it gets done because supposedly no one is supposed to live aboard but I know people who do it on Lake Lewisville in North Texas. It gets cold (and hot) but I operate year around.

I am curious to know why you want to specifically live on a freshwater lake, but are not particularly concerned with which state it is in.

Are you afraid of sharks?

ScottHardin, we did it successfully on Lake Lewisville for 3 years. "don't ask; don't tell". You just don't tell anyone who works there that you live there, and no one hassles you. Same was true on Lake Ray Roberts and also Grapevine Lake.

Cheechako: every marina we lived at in North Texas offered pumpout services dockside to deal with sewage. The same has proved true now that we are in Florida.
