I'm exploring the possibility of spending a few or several months in the Caribbean,besides full service marinas that cost 1.15$ per ft per day, Is there a less expensive way to get fresh water ?

You don't necessarily have to buy a night's dockage, just pull in and buy however much water (and fuel) you need then go back out and anchor.
Alternatively, you could buy a watermaker.

Most marinas will sell water without requiring you to stay there. Sometimes it's free if you purchase fuel. We finally gave in and bought a water maker and love, love, love, it.

Assuming you don't buy anything except the water how much a Gl? Do they meter it?

every place is different; some charge a flat rate, others meter, others 'comp.'
we paid up to $.50 USD/gallon
We now have a water maker, not a financial decision but a 'quality of life' solution

We use FSMike's plan from post #3 not only in the islands, but here in the USA.

We get our water at fuel docks. Varies from free to dear.

You can catch rain then filter the amt you want to drink.
