The global mean temperature has steadily dropped for the last 10 years while at the same time, co2 has continued to rise. MAN MADE global warming is a fantasy.
Co2 increases have historically risen 800 years after temerature increases.

Really? Take a look at what Google Images finds. Wait - there's one image with a downward trend! Oops - it's for temperatures for the last couple of weeks. Not ten years.

Recorded temps are rising. The jury on whether man is the cause is still out.

One way of looking at it: yes, there is a profit motive out there. But it's not the scientists, it's the entrepreneurs who are willing to take risks, not the players who want to maintain the status quo. Look at any market in history - there are those players who want to keep doing what they've been doing to make money - any change is risk to profits. But inevitably, the future belongs to the risk takers. It's dinos vs. mammals...

The frozen Welsh canals are clearly due to so many folks crossing to the Bahamas (Where it is warmer) from Florida and causing a disruption in the flow of the Gulfstream which is responsible for the normally Moderate temps in the UK. Please send me a grant to study this in depth. Anyone want to help with this historical and timely research?

I think its important to realize that we are still coming out of an Ice Age, yes there is global warming but that is part of nature.

I do agree that we are making it happen faster as humans, and we have to do our part to save the enviroment but lets not blame everything on us.

There once use to be palm tree's all over the world and yes even in Nova Scotia. Now that the Ice Age is over, the natural course is for the planet to warm up.

What goes around comes around, What was once old is new again, etc.

We aren't here for a long time we are here for a good time, so lets have a good time and do what we can for tomorrows generations.

I feel for you guys down in Florida, we are use to the ice and cold. However, it is just a nomal winter for us. The river outside of my house has not frozen over yet, temps are from plus 5 to minus 10 celsis or 38 to 20 F.

Actually the current weather pattern isn't El nino. It's something called the Arctic Oscillation. (pdf). It's a well documented weather phemonenon, and right now it's the strongest it's ever been observed. The effect of the oscillation is to warm the Arctic, cool europe, asia and north america, and to weaken the trade winds and westerlies. It's recently went off the charts. It implies nothing about climate, since the cool weather at mid latitudes is offset by warm weather at high latitudes.

We are also beginning to thaw in SW Florida. Here's a side effect of the freeze. Five days of north winds blew all the water out of the canal. We had to spend two nights in a hotel. Fringe benefit...the hotel heating system was more up to the task than out on board system.

I learned a couple of things. First, my boat rests comfortably on the bottom at 20 degrees of heel. Good to know if I ever decide to careen her or I get stuck in a shallow anchorage. I've seen lots of boats sitting like this in Brittany (where I will likely never sail) and it's good to know she won't take water over the rail.

Second, 20 degrees of heel is too much. Usually, when the boat heels, I'm tucked neatly in a lee cockpit seat, enjoying the ride. I almost never have to spend any time moving around the cabin. My wife complains, but what does she know? Lesson? Reef before 20 degrees. I had a 20 rule, reef before 20 knots. I now have a 20-20 rule.

Third, at that angle, the water inlet for the head is blocked by mud.

Finally our berth in the aft cabin is athwartship. You can't sleep that way at 20 degrees.

No pee, no sleep, go to hotel.

As I said, it has been cooling for the last 10 years while co2 has cointinued to climb rapidly. All the GW scientists said 10 years ago we would be 2 to 4 degrees warmer by 2010 according to their climate models. All their climate models were wrong then and they are wrong now.

Methinks you’re missreading the charts & graphs; which typically show a continued warming, through 2008.
