Re: Essential Knowledge

A basic working knowledge of diesels and electrical systems,12v/120/240,depends on where you're going. The problem I encountered most was fuel quality.I've got two inline Racor fuel filters with sight glasses in em.A shop manual specific to your engine, not Haynes or junk like that.passable French and/or Spanish will get you by almost anywhere, pretty much.I keep a little portable sewing machine, but I grew up with canvas.

Re: Essential Knowledge

Just get Nigel Calder's "Boatowner's Mechanical and Electrical Manual" and read it cover to cover... then let the school of hard knocks begin...

That's how I learned basic diesel repair. Amazing what you can figure out when you're broke down and stranded somewhere.

However, I do have to say that a little study in advance could have saved on some of the repairs.

Re: Essential Knowledge

I can't say I've ever studied any of it,but I did try to be prepared for whatever.Enough time on land I tend to forget how big it is out there.
