What do we need electronically to cross from the BVI to St Martin?

But a depth sounder comes on handy as does a handheld gps

I was also thinking electronics being safety equipment...EPIRB, AIS...sorry I wasn't clear.

No AIS or EPIRB. You may want a VHF. It is only about 80 miles.

It depends on how much you want to spend. You don't need any electronics if you want to DR it or you could spend thousands of dollars if you want to know where you are every second and know what is around you and possibly heading towards you.

How safe do you want to be?

The minimum, cheapest piece of safety equipment would be a handheld VHF...and that is definitely safety equipment.
