re: Does Cruising Make You Haelthier ?

i find if i touch children i become ragingly ill from cold virus. always have, so i remain away from folks as much as possible and i only become virally infected when using fb. or when i mix with others too often. or invite the wrong folks to crew who dont tell me of illnesses pending meeting. i keep a stock of antiviral med on board so i dont have too much trouble with it, and i try to drink a lot of fruit juices or tang or water. teas work also, and soups. dehydration is bad with a virus. avg works for the puter but not for folks.

I hate to be the killjoy but Amoxycillin won't cure a cold. Colds are viral and Amoxycillin is antibiotic. It would work on an infected wound so hang on to it.

Wonder why the DR would write a scrip for that ? I'll hang on to it for sure.

My first encounter with amoxycillin was a doctor's prescription for flu so I know amoxycillin well because it nearly killed me. Hard experience taught me that I'm alergic to it but anyway a stash of antibiotics on the boat is always a good idea. I keep 100 Dalacin C which works for me. It has saved me twice. Infected cuts are easy to get in any of the world's poor countries most of which are filthy.

Give the amoxycillin a go by all means. Your problem might well be bacterial but colds and flu are both viral.

Thanks. Other than my stuffy head We get quite a bit of exersize on our boat with yoga on the bow of our cat and lots of walking when at a dock, usually to grocery stores when crusing.

The sinus infection is probably bacterial, even though the cold that caused it is viral. True, amoxicillin won't help the cold, but it will help with secondary infections.

We talkin' mental or physical?

In any case, Yes!

I have a cough right now, I know it came from visiting my cousins in San Diego Last week. Before that I haven't had a cold or cough or sniffles since I left New York in 1994. Boy, I miss the East Coast!

If you want to eat healthy on a boat try home canning of fruits and vegetables. When properly done it will preseve foods for up to 10 years and generally keeps the same nutritional content of fresh food. You will want to do it on land the fist couple of times to get the hang of it, and I would strongly discourage canning on the open ocean or any time where you cant get good ventilation

Thank you Astrid! I was hoping someone would get that corrected.

Well, one burns a bit more calories boating than sitting on the couch watching TV. On the other hand, skin cancer, drowning, and a greater difficulty obtaining medical assistance weighs against boating.
