Re: Does anyone keep a safe onboard?

I have a safe in my basement and it tends to get damp inside. Does a safe onboard collect moisture as well?

What about a safe full of lead ingots, coated with a thin layer of gold. Make sure the total weight is above 500 lbs. I like the fake cash too. Hopefully they will be in a dingy.

I like that one NEWT. It could double as ballast for your boat. I would want to add some security cameras just so I could laugh at the footage later.

Did you know my hobby is scuba diving inspecting hulls. And I always carry bolt cutters with me.

I used to have money, before I bought two yachts. Nothing worth hiding now.

A friend keeps a wallet in plain sight, containing an expired passport and piles of Asian currency that converts to about $10 when changed. He figures a rushed thief will grab that and make off without checking it.

Would't that passport release confidential info about you and could be used to make a fake passport. Just change the photo. Like the idea of the wallet with small cash. Won't rumble around finding the $100,000 you have hidden elsewhere.

Not really. Australian passports contain a chip that's used for fast processing, once they expire they're essentially useless. No address, and the photo won't matter unless you're worried about being identified by it while in the area.

Aren't "Good" and "Insurance" oxymorons?

I remember the one time I came close to collecting on a valid claim I missed it for some arcane reason as cited which I am sure I could have fought and won but life is too short and lawyers, clerks, and courts are too expensive.

Remember insurance is a for profit concern and their profits rest in your inability to collect on claim(s).

Re: Does Anyone keep a Safe Onboard?

Have a cheap safe on each of my boats. Electric with combination and key. After 3 seasons the electric stopped working so use key. $49.95 total. Keeps the amateurs out. A pro will cut the boat to remove? Good for whdn you go swimming or shopping.

Re: Does Anyone keep a Safe Onboard?

I usually use a cubby hole on the boat that you would likely tear the boat apart to find.... unless you knew where it was. Unless they know it's there, they are not going to find it. Most boats seem to have one...
