why should anyone out of country while receiving social security income of any kind be in danger of loss of citizenship?? since when did usa become so stringent and dictatorial that it is mandatory to report movements to big brother??
so far, we have not gotten that far.

Actually for any foreign nationals in your country on a cruising permit you're already there. Maybe you average citizens are not far behind.

There is a huge amount of fraud in the system. Quite a few dead folks get payments here in the States and abroad.

A PO Box and a local bank in the same zip code has worked well. We spend the winters in the Bahamas and have never mentioned it to SSA.

I do wonder how SSA will know when I have "Passed on" ....I suspect a certificate of death would generate a flag in the system.

If your crew or wife throw you overboard and the sharks eat you, then no one will know....unless it is reported to local authorities and then they will ultimately get that info to a US gov. agency.. Had a friend die in Thailand. Hospital reports to police....police finds passport....reports to consulate...then gets reported to USA gov. agencies....and SS ....and then they stop SS checks...and freeze bank account ( if payments are going into one) ...and get back their money that was paid after death.

They don't have to stamp it.... you pass in or out of Oz ... the social security mob knows about it.

My situation... all I get from the 'Strayan Guvment is cheap pills and somewhat less than $1000 a year cos the Ranga stuffed up with her carbon tax thingo a few years back.

Until the not too distant past if I was out of Australia for more than 45 days I would get an email saying I had to front 'Centrelink'... the local social security mob ... when I arrived back and do a bit of grovelling .

Having figured how many hours were being lost dealing with the likes of me it is now 90 days... but then the rules upon re-entry have all changed esp the treatment of assets .... after 12 months away your family home is no longer your residence but an asset etc etc.

I blame it on the Lebs and the 2006 war....

I have a very small private UK pension... every three or four years I get a letter.... just making sure I am still alive...
