Re: Do you keep previous boat owners "good luck" charms?

I bough my boat as a Repo.

Rooting around I found a nickle in a drawer.

I thought, "the boat took the previous owners last nickle" and I tossed the nickle into the sea with a smile.

Re: Do you keep previous boat owners "good luck" charms?

This is the charm that the previous owners gave me as a partin g gift. Not sure what it means but it's kept us safe.

Humans are suspicious by nature, to be otherwise has to be trained out of you which is why most people are religious.
Get rid of the silly charms BUT if something bad should happen....well!

Re: Do you keep previous boat owners "good luck" charms?

My guess is that the PO left them because they meant nothing anymore. Perhaps you could explain why it is exactly you want to keep them?

AFAIK there is no superstition relative to previous owners "charms".

Re: Do you keep previous boat owners "good luck" charms?

I kept mine because the boat is almost as old as I am and I thought I should know her better before I changed her name or started messing with her "spirits". Didn't stop me from having several problems getting her home. A year later, the name is the same, the two objects I kept are still here, and I feel like she's more of a partner than a possession. Don't really think it would've mattered, I just kept them to remind me to respect the boat.

Re: Do you keep previous boat owners "good luck" charms?

I have kept the Greek blue evil eye charm that was mounted on my boat, but that's only because I felt no need to remove it as it looks ok... If I was superstitious and into that sort of thing then I would never have changed the boats name
