We sold everything off last year except for our SUV which is stored in Ohio but was licensed in Michigan. We are using St Brendan's as our mailing address so now we are residences of Florida. To get plates in FL, I need to have the VIN inspected in the state prior to plates being issued. My MI registration for MI has now expired. How do I legally get my car from Ohio to Florida?

There are car transport companies out there to toss it on a truck. Company names I can not think of this early.

There are a lot of online resources for car transport companies. You can get quotes and various shippers will bid for your business. We did that to get a car up from Florida to NY, and it cost about $450, which was cheaper/easier than flying down there and driving it back.

Alternatively, I wonder if FL has some sort of temporary licensing system. I've wondered about this (but never researched it in full) because I'd like to go to FL to buy a rust-free older car and bring it north.

Temporary licencing is how we do it in Australia. You'd have to buy a permit for each state you traveled through, which could be logistically messy in this case. Truck it.

It would seem you either have to, have it trucked/transported or renew MI registration. Most states require a physcial inspection if VIN and/or emmissions.

Thousands of snow birds have their vehicles trucked back and forth to Fl every year. Bet you could get a deal on having your vehicle shipped south in summer, although do it soon as most snow birds have left already.
