Dehumidifiers

It's early this winter in Texas to have to worry about condensation but it's also snowing in Clear Lake today. I have looked at the dehumidifiers at home improvement locations but the units are so large I really don't need the capacity and cannot find a location to put them below. I hoped the PNW liveaboards might have a particular brand they think is best. Any help on the subject would be appreciated.

We use a Soleus 25-pint dehumidifier. We like it because it's far more quiet than most other units we looked at. And relatively small. If you shop around you'll be able to get one for under $200.

We bought a little "Eva-Dry" unit from amazon for around $50. It helps a bit... There's a bunch of compact model units like ours available that use a peltier junction.

For a 40' boat I use (4) 250 watt heat lamps through out the boat. One of them over the motor and the boat stays dry inside even with all the rain and moss growing on the out side.
You just have to be careful where and how you place them!!!

Yesterday it got down to 26 degrees F and the boat was still 45 degrees F inside w/ humidity at 30 %.

Air Dryer Dehumidifier from WEST MARINE

I used this for years in S.F. Ca., and it kept my 30ft. mono dry. It ran day & night with a very minimum of sound.......i2f

We also have and LOVE one of these. The only thing I don't like about it is, when there is a power failure, it doesn't turn back on.

Third vote for the Soleus. Works great, and our moisture problems went away the day we started using it. We've got the 40-pint, since it looks to be the same size as the 25.

We purchased a mermaid dry-pal from yachts-of-stuff for use in the Rio Dulce next summer ....... haven't tried it yet but, sure hope it works!

on our colvic watson 32 in France we have 8 solar vents 4 blowing in and 4 sucking out and at the moment we have 49% HUMIDITY WORKS WELL

I had a problem with a rental that kept acumulating moisture. It was bad enough that the carpet under the windows and glass door were soaked.

I bought 4 of these Dri-Z-Air units and spread them out through the rental unit. It worked better than those small "Closet dehumidifiers".

The plus is that it doesn't need any power.

The minus is that you have to keep buying christals to use in the units.

I useually do a froogle search and buy from who ever I can get the best price. Sometimes it is a case of the packets some times it is in bulk.

The tenants are happy with them.

We used to wake up wet from all the drops of condisation. We tried those buckets of crystals and they didnt do jack. We put in the west marine one Air Dryer Dehumidifier from WEST MARINE and we havent seen a single drop since. and the best thing is that theres no need to empty it. We just leave it running all day. We got it used from Bacon for $35, great buy!

Got our new Soleus 40 pint unit in yesterday. I put it in our living room right next to our new mermaid 16500 BTU airconditioner. In the den is our new 7x30 Steiners.

The 26th we go to the boat so the wife can have the laying on of hands for the first time and make "suggestions" as to decor for the remodeling. She comes back to
TX for her last semester of her teaching career and in June we are off. I know we will be dry inside, and will be able to see a long ways. From January until June much of my time will be 1100 miles from our old home working on our new home away from home.

You guys sold me on the Soleus on this thread, I will report back after the 1st of the year as to its performance.
