Day Four on the ICW

Left Daytona this morning in pouring
rain but calm water- had to stay there
an extra day because of lightning and
tornado alerts- hope to make St . Augustine
Tonight but has been slow going
with narrow channel- sky seems to
be getting clearer- baby Molly the
Puppy sleeping- seems to like the
motor noise . Have loved our adventure
Thus far- dolphins, manatee and
so many birds!

Heresay only, but I have been told that areas of the ICW in Georgia are quite shallow, having silted in and not been dredged due to budgetary restrictions. Wouldn't hurt to avail yourself of local knowledge along the way! Live the dream!

Re: Day Four on the ICW

It gets more beautiful as you get north. St. Augustine is nice, but be careful with the current as you approach the docks.

Re: Day Four on the ICW

Thank you both- we are totally new at
this so we are glued to the charts and
reality- just passed Marineland on our starboard-
We will be so glad to get to Camachee
Cove tonight! We are cold and wet!Captain
Is calm though despite his newness and
The wind- nice to know you are out there!

Camachee Cove is very nice and will get you out of the strong S. Augustine current--you will like it there.

That's where my boat is. The PO of my boat is still there as he purchased a trawler. His name is Howard Decker. Ask for him at the office. A great guy!

GrandBanksgram, We're in Jacksonville and heading up behind you in a few weeks. What is your destination? I think we'll stay in the Chesapeake for most of the summer this year.

Re: Day Four on the ICW

Accident!!! We were docking in a strong
Wind at Comachee Cove and crunched-
Ripped 4 stanchions and 7 feet of
Teak railing and our dive platform. And made
A little hole in a mega yacht. We are
Beyond distraught-

So sorry to hear that. Hope your insurance is paid up. One small consolation, St Augustine has good resources for repairs.

Where were they putting you? At the fuel dock by the office. Gotta remember, when in doubt take it slow. Really sorry to hear it. Hope it all works out ok for you.

Re: Day Four on the ICW

Good luck with fixing things up. I will second the idea that you happen to be in a great place to get assistance if you need it. There are also some great facilities up the St. Johns River.
