I believe I read that actually more often it's the Women who cheat, so much for that stereotype.
I don't know if there is any truth to that or not.

Re: Dating, Relationships livingaboard

I should add, since clearly we have lost all sense of holding back...

My opening tirade is partially my own fault.

I like very, very attractive women and maybe 1 or 2 of those on all of Earth like to live on boats.

Can't go down to the regatta or docks to meet any because they all look like older Rosie O'Donnells.

I like hot, racy, in shape women who are very petite.

These aren't sailors. Even in college, the only ones that liked to sail were husky/butch.

I get plenty of women of the kind I prefer on land. Do any want to play house on a boat? Hell no.

Hi Seaworthy lass, have you questioned why these views offend you, they are opinions not attitudes. In regards to mens hardwiring, there is some evidence to suggest what you state is true. Also, I don't believe our primal instincts govern our every move but to deny they strongly influence our motives would be naive.
This sort of discussion is difficult as it challenges all we have been programmed to believe in this area, lets not let evidence (ie divorce rate) get in the way of a good story. People have a lot invested in this belief. I also believe we are quite arrogant regarding our view of ourselves, take voilence, A64 mentioned it as an animal urge, please show me a animal that is more capable of mass voilence than us?
This is a great discussion, I do not mean to offend with my opinions. When reading them please try to keep this in mind

This is true.

In nearly every other country, my post doesn't hold. Seems women are just more down to earth about their lifestyles everywhere except the States.

I'm stuck in the states for a bit for work. Not retirement age at all.

I view this thread strictly as entertainment, not as a matter of truth. Take my comments in stride.

When a man wants out of a relationship he might stick around for a month or two but the average woman will stick around for a year or two. If they have kids things will drag on much longer before both parties check out.

The cruising crowd is very independent and if you get married young you might not realize how much you value your independence. Hence a high divorce rate and feeling that you have been spurned by the opposite sex.

I agree with an earlier post that if you are good with the opposite sex, you will have a similar success rate if you live on a boat or on land.

Re: Dating, Relationships livingaboard

I'm surprised so many people suggest a disappointing fate in relationships. It's as if some are suggesting that the outcomes in life are things that happen to them instead of the products of their choices.

I made a choice to live on a sailboat and cruise, so I worked hard for that result.
I made a choice to have a rewarding career, so I worked hard for that result.
I made a choice to keep an older vessel sound, so I work hard for that.
I made a choice to be healthy, so I work hard at that.

Why would I expect a loving relationship to be something that happens to me by chance? I made a choice to love and be loved, so I work hard for that.

I've been accused of being a Polyanna by attitude, yes, I work hard at that too!

Enough of this disappointing despair. Who cares about the statistics of the masses or what the behaviors may be the norm. If we were subject to normal we wouldn't be cruisers! Make a choice and work for it!

Pollyana......Iearnt something today! Never seen that word before.
I like your views ,but are they right? Do you just work harder at a job you dislike? Work harder is the traditional advice. Is the effort worth the reward?
But maybe your right and it's more a perception thing, training your mind to focus on what you like and not what you dislike? I recently read a book on Stoicism, stoics would suggest everything's more a perception problem than a real problem. I lived with a Tibetan Buddhist monk years back(long story)...dam , should have listened more, then again he was a virgin at 58 so maybe he didn't have much to offer....lol.
