Cruising Cuba - Internet and ATMs

Hi,

We plan on cruising the east and north coast of Cuba yet we are unsure about the availability of getting Internet and drawing cash via ATM (as we have non on board)

Many thanks

Jarvis

No internet in Cuba but you can get on for e-mail only at all hotels ,$6 per hour. For money go to bank and use mastercard or visa but not US cards

Internet at some hotels, as already noted not cheap. I know of one ATM in Havana that accepts foreign credit cards, but none that accept bank cards, of course it only dispenses Convertible Pesos. This ATM is on Calle Obispo in old Havana, it's easy to find, just look for the ATM with all the foreigners lined up. This of course will not work if your credit card is issued by an American bank. The easiest thing to do is to bring cash and exchange your cash as you required.

Are ETECSA stores common in towns which yachts are permited?

Does anyone know if fuel is available at most ports, or is it a jerry can trip to state run service/petrol station?

Dunno for sure but reckon there's only one in each of the major cities like in Santiago de Cuba (my limited knowledge)

The marina didn't have fuel when I was there, but it might have changed. It's quite easy to get some helping hands and a coche there just remember to get the price first..

Ahoy crazyhorse77 (Jarvis), marlinespike (Don), Efraim, Teddydiver (Teddy).

Y'all have spoken of ATMs and Internet connections. It has been several years for this post.
If any one of you are still active, I would like to pick your memories about cruising Cuba.

I am aboard a Pearson 365 ketch. I am planning on doing the south side of Cuba,
west to east and back....taking up to nine months. What do you remember about paper work,
renewal of cruising permits and _?_

Re: Cruising Cuba - Internet and ATMs

Hello,

A Cuban cruising permit is valid for 6 months and costs $25CUC

I have never needed to renew one but is should be possible.

As for tourist visas, they are valid for 1 month and can be renewed for 1 month...
unless you are Canadian then the first one is good for 3 months renewable for 3 months. The iniatial cost is 15CUC the renew price 25CUC.

Re: Cruising Cuba - Internet and ATMs

Thank you Don...I am excited about my refit and crusing. My first voyage will be Cuba's south coast. I need to gather all the info I can from boats that have been there.
I lived aboard a Pearson 30 in the eastern Caribbean for 8 years...now bigger boat same dream.
