Creature Comforts on Board

What are your fuzzy, warm, comforts of home, ideas and improvements and "best of" recommendations, and where can we all find them?

1) Changed the overhead LED spots from institutional blue to warm white. Bulbs on eBay less than $3 a piece.
2) Installed 12' long DC powered warm LED rope light at the back of lounge seating area (Ebay) for cozy indirect lighting.
3) Installed battery operated motion sensing photocell LED light water resistent light fixtures in the heads from Amazon (I use a standard size post it notes to soften the light, cheesey but it works).
4) Applied wall decale art work throughout (Etsy.com)
5) Hot water bottles (a must have if cold is an issue)
6) Shark V1510 handheld vacuum (sucks the dimples off a potato).
7) Scented soy candle for interior lighting during night passages. While doing the watch I treat myself to an audio book (audible.com).
8) WiFi booster to get internet in places you wouldn't believe.
9) Worlds Best Cat Litter, no dust, light natural smell. Costs 2x's more than scoopable clay but lasts 2x's longer, weighs 1/2 as much.
10 Kitchen knife box holder. Made it using bamboo skewers and a box (interior dims 5" x 5" x 8" high and 1400 skewers from the dollar store). Make sure it's securely held in place or you'll be playing 1400 pick up

Souveners can be impracticle and expensive..

Egypt had fun haggling for a carpet!! Even had the shopkeeper run after us down the road... and we had gone at least 500 meters!! So the silk Egyptian rug (woven by virgins from my own village far in the desert and brought to you by camel...) $40

Other rugs we have are soft 'n fluffy for 'deck feet' from Turkey $3; Dolphins jumping carpet from Malaysia in forward cabin $3; Crazy Fruit carpet in Spanish from France for $5

Also photos we've taken framed velcroed to bulkheads, and postcards same.

Comforts make a house like a home!!!!!!!!!! <---Oooops! The salty buggers will get offended: Comforts make a sailorly-like-vessel less utilitarian and more dangerous and should be banned and ripped out before going to sea

Stay at home and do not bother sailing out: 100% creature comforts.

As a non-sailor who's roughed it to varying degrees on land, I'm fascinated by the extent of comforts portrayed in photos of your vessels.

But then it might be flaws in my personality which make night watches and weeks without seeing land and so on seem attractive, while the biggest challenges seem to be on the technical, logistics and self-management sides.

Real easy for someone who's never been there or done any of that to say, eh?

Mark, I get such a belly laugh when I read your posts. That you found the only Egyptian virgin employer rug manufacturer is quite impressive.

It's not a surprise that sailors with salt in their veins can be deeply offended by this topic. That we even have light fixtures can seem unfathomable. I get that, no offense intended. We love them salt of the earth and sea peeps. There's something even the saltiest sailors can't seem to part with. That VHF, the windlass, the engine???

Comforts like,

Exotic locations
Exotic food;
Exotic people,
Do I really need to go on, actually getting away is a creature comfort in itself. But then again, ice maker is a big plus

Non-electric goods. Check out Lehmans.com. It is an amish/Mennonite store in Ohio. You would be surprised how many things they sell that are useful on a boat. That and throw pillows are a necessary comfort for me.

Biggest comfort for me wood be A/C in a warm/hot climate. I have to have it cool/cold when I sleep.

We don't live aboard yet, but are planning on it at somepoint and we will definetely look for a boat with this and genset. I like the idea of a unit that can heat as well so we could spend some time in colder climates as well.

Otherwise I'm pretty easy to please

The boat is a creature comfort..gets you away from the other creatures you don't want to deal with...

I'd say well vented topside shade...
Rum.
good quality pillows..

The 'top' comfort for me is a really good mattress followed very closely by a water maker. Recently I was looking at sail boats, thinking about coming back to the light It was the thought of giving up all the creature comforts that held me in the arms of a devilish contraption called a motor cruiser.
I can have my freezers, fridges, washing and drying machines, garbage crusher, dishwasher, long hot freshwater showers. I could go on but I don't want to remind you all about the things you just can't have.
