In reply to the example of cruisers without engines you'd be foolish to cruise without an engine. What most folks don't know about cruisers with engineless boats is that they often rely on others to tow them into the anchorage.

Good point Rick and that is the case with the Pardey's. They have relied on their notoriety to get assistance when they need it. But I do believe their new (for many years) boat does have an engine and even a bathtub.

I am new to this forum but this thread caught my interest. I have lived aboard for the past 2 years on a 34 foot Westerly and I can honestly say that after paying for the boat, the slip and insurance and a small storage shed, my basic living expenses are about the same or slightly higher than what I would pay for a decent one bedroom apartment. But that extra expense keeps me on the water in a very quiet area and it feels like being on vacation everyday....the downside is that it is really difficult to head off for work when I have to. Nothing like enjoying a quiet morning sitting in the cockpit drinking coffee and reading )) I am not even sure I could go back to living on land now.
