Considering The Annapolis Area Any Suggestions?

the boat is already in the Chester area and after talking to a few other forum members starting thinking instead of the Potomac area finding a marina over that way already have a few suggestions but the more we have the better chances we have of locating a decent on that we both like and works for us

If you haven't already, search related threads by RunningRabbit; she lives aboard in Annapolis and posted some of her research.

Lots of choices available, all different price ranges, might depend on what kind of land stuff you need to do, if any. (commute? etc.) .

You can also review marina options in ActiveCaptain.

Biggest winter-time issues are probably about sanitation (pump-outs) and fresh water, so look specifically for solutions to those while you shop.

I just noticed in your Potomac thread the mention of driving to Tyson's Corner.

Figure 1:15 minimum at sane speeds from Annapolis area at oh-dark-thirty (or at least pre-rush on the DC beltway). Figure 2:30 average return at normal coming home times. Add 1-2 hours each way for accidents.

For a liveaboard marine near DC and not IN DC I'd check out Shipwright Harbor in Deale
Closest to DC

Still prefer the Wash Channel if working in town..

I used to live in the DC area (MD). You don't want to be driving from Annapolis to Tysons Corner every day regardless of the time. Rush hour? Forget it. Don't sign an annual lease, go week to week, you'll be moving the boat.

Get on Active Captain, look at marinas close to work, then call them and ask about living aboard. Start with the closest then move outward. Try to stay on the VA side of the river so you don't have to cross to get to work.

There are liveaboards at Gang Plank and National Harbor and 'full time cruisers' (no stay restrictions but no moored engineless houseboats and boats must be in good repair and must leave their slips periodically) at Washington Marina, CYC and a few other clubs up the Anacostia River as well.

I've heard the only way to liveaboard at the Gangplank is to buy a current liveaboard that's already there. And also that most everyone else has to leave (had to leave?) when they do the major renovation...

ActiveCaptain reviews on all the other marinas up in the Washington Channel and the Anacostia pretty much say no liveaboards.

I don't know about long term, but transient dockage is about $125 per night minimum. That's high for my 28' boat.

I started thinking about possibly finding reasonably priced ones and getting monthly slips and say that we are in the area so she can visit her family and just hit different marinas till we find a longer term place to dock, And given the number of them that should give us a few months to figure things out.

Then when they ask why i am on the boat and such a lot I will just say I am out of place due to me being a country boy and her family is tradition Chinese so its best i stay in the boat lol

Or another idea is we find a marina dock there and i stay on the boat while she stays with family closer to work thru her work week

We stayed at the Capital Yacht Club for $2.05 per foot. Great place and right in town.
