Bermuda--72*, not a cloud in the sky. Think I will take Bluestocking out for a sail this afternoon.

Boxing Day - The start of the Sydney Hobart

The First Mate and myself went out to see the start of the Sydney Hobart.
(See photos of Wild Oats XI and spectator boats just before the start. Sorry about the quality.)

We anchored (in 45' of water, new Manson Supreme dragged a bit - needed more scope) just to the east of Chowder Bay, which is just to the north east of the start line.

Saw the start (spectator boats everywhere) raised the anchor (chain jammed - must fix) came back to the dock just in time to avoid the 20kt northerly which blows straight down the bay and across our slip) and had a nice lunch of leftover glazed ham and a snooze.

For our North American and European friends the weather forecast for New Year's Eve/Day is :-

Wednesday Fine.
City: Min: 19 Max: 29
West: Min: 15 Max: 33

Thursday
Fine.
City: Min: 19 Max: 27
West: Min: 15 Max: 30

Well, (un??)fortunately for us Haligonians (yup thats what they call people from Halifax NS) had no snow and it was +9 C, so I guess the coast to coast snow thing is off for another year at least.

Of course it would be nice to be enjoying the same views as Hud. Maybe next year

leave it to mark and nicolle to do the boasting. nice decor on the flue pipe! nicolle's sun dress gives you away, tho.

i haven't had an email from nicolle for a while, she was really keeping up there early on. what gives??

waterdog - we were in vancouver for xmas too! spent a lot of time digging out the car, though we went to visit geordie's bro who's teaching in town there.

but newport is pretty too! we were out for a sail on december the 5th in our t-shirts! look, i have proof!

geordie will not like this photo of himself, so don't tell him i posted it, 'kay?

it turned out that october/november/december we got better sailing weather than all summer:

yaquina bay

with spectacular sunsets.

can you see the planets? so close to the moon?

which was pretty spectacular, since ten days later we had this:

if you don't know the pacific nw, you don't know how incredibly strange it is to have ice. and snow. at the coast! *that does not melt in sunlight* SHOCKING.

which is why we went to B.C. to warm up.

I thought it would be fun to "bump" this one up in the spirit of the season! We're gonna spend Christmas in the local area (we still have that four letter word tying us down...J-O-B-S), anchored in Liberty Bay off Poulsbo for Christmas, then maybe stop by Blake Island to see what it is like during the off season. Right now it is 39 and raining- ah to be in the Caribbean like some of you!

It didn't work.... This landlubber found it.

We are finally getting over a cold snap. We had temperatures of 5 degrees Ferenheit. Lots of broken water pipes.

No snow right now, but we might get it by Christmas.

Mery Christmas all,
Scott

Great idea to bump this since it can be our perennial Xmas update.

Busy with a couple of projects, so not much time for sailing lately but the boat is all ready and tugging at her lines… (as am I)

We are spending Xmas at my place on Mindoro Island, Philippines, where I can enjoy the tranquility of a beautiful sunrise from my balcony and the cheekiness of the local kids.

….Rumors that it might snow for Christmas…. but that is only if the volcano blows!

Ah…this country always keeps you on alert…but I love it!

Seasons best to all from Stargazer

Freezing my butt off heading towards Miami and then the Bahamas. About 39 degrees at night and there's no heat on the boat. Right now in Palm Coast, got to work on the Yamaha 15 hp this morning. After eight faithful seasons it now refuses to run. Will start but there's a problem with the carb. Merry Christmas everyone.
