Brisbane River advice

Hi All,

I'm really new to all this but i'm interested in living aboard in the Brisbane river or close by as i work near the CBD and basically would like some advice if any one has any.

I'm wondering if it's reasonable to stay anchored or if i should spend the cash and moor some where (garden point probably tho i can't really find any info for them online either) also is there places i should or shouldn't anchor, fees, who do i pay them to and anything else you can think of i may need to know. (i'm still at the information gathering stage, haven't even bought a boat yet and have minimal sailing experience but plenty of experience on the water in smaller power boats)

Currently in NZ so not keen to make phone calls to Brisbane Council.

Thanks!

Re: Brisbane River advice

Otheres will know far better than i but.....I worked with a guy for a few years who lived aboard and anchored in front of the CBD. Not exactly sure if it was near the botanical gardens or back toward Storey Bridge. I do know that he was:
1. Under constant pressure from the "establishment" NOT to be there - there were multiple visits per week.
2. adamant that there was actually nothing they could do to force him to move on.

When I lost touch with him he was still happily being rocked to sleep by the passing city cats. This was going back about 4 years ago

Probably the most hassle free way would be to take one of the pile moorings at the botanical gardens. Quite cheap too, and the fee includes use of facilities, water and a dinghy dock.

Pretty sure anchored boats can only stay a limited time.

Re: Brisbane River advice

Can anyone give me contact names and/or numbers to see if there are moorings available? I have looked everywhere!

Re: Brisbane River advice

I looked in on the pile moorings recently and I seem to remember the sign said something like first come first served....no bookings, tie up and pay at wherever!

Mate of mine says $60/week...2008, may be a bit more now.

I'd prefer a marina berth at Manly.....quick commute to CBD.
