Book Recommendations

Hi,

We are looking to have a life style change in a couple of years, myself my GF and our Rhodsian Ridgeback Kito. We are looking to cruise the Med for 6 months and live in England for 6 months on a Catamaran.

Between now and then I am going to take all the RYA courses, read lots of books and go on a few Catamaran hoildays. I want to make sure we are safe and also when we bring our family aboard for holidays they will be very safe. We would like also run a business and make money at the same time if we can if this is possible?

Any advise would be great thanks.

Can anyone recommed any good books please.

Tony, Janice and Kito our RR

Re: Book Recommendations

Here are my favorites:
How to Sail Around the World - Hal Roth
Buy, Outfit and Sail a Small Vessel Around the World - Fatty Goodlander
All in the Same Boat - Tom Neal (this was my first book on cruising)

The classes sound like a great idea. I'd keep in mind that while chartering is good for gaining experience, it is in no way like actually living aboard and cruising on a boat. It's more of a vacation. If at all possible, I'd recommend walking the docks and trying to meet people who have been cruising, as it's the best way to learn what it's really like.

Good luck in your planning. It's a great life, but it's also a lot of hard work. Hope to see you out there some day.
