There are three haul-out yards in Cartagena. Go to the files section in the Cruisers Network Online Yahoo Group to see all about Cartagena, and marine services.

Also, get a copy of the Cruising Guide to Colombia through the Seven Seas Cruising Association (SSCA)

Also lots of info, if dated, on Club Nautico's web site:

http://www.clubnauticocartagena.com/carta.htm

I was there last year and just for comparison got a bottom job quote from Ferroalquimar. Wow! About 2x what the same job cost at Shelter Bay in Panama.

Seems there are individual contractors with good skills at reasonable prices, but most of the yards/marinas are expensive.

There is a thread here discussing Cartegena vs Rio Dulce for a refit.

We just looked - and we used Todomar - they did a great job and were easy to work with and inexpensive.

As for the seas and winds? Check the pilot charts and you will see that what you are seeing is normal. The permanent Colombia low is always present or at least usually present and by the way it gets worse at night not better.

good luck

Yes, I'm familair with the Colombia Low. Current wind and sea states are higher than normal. Pilot Chart for March give seas 12' or greater a 10% probability. NOAA wind/wave forcast charts for 24, 36, and 48 hours give expected max sea hights from 13 to 15'....well above normal. Also the area of coverage of the higher sea state and winds is larger than normal for March. An area of significant sea height of 9' extends to much of the eastern Panamanian coast now. NOAA also notes the area as GALE force winds for these forecast periods...also not typical to see.
