Any suggestions for boat / personal security systems?

The biggest anchor you can swing around your head - on lots of chain.

Boat - make it look secure. Upgraded locks. Car alarm and/or alarm-warning blinky-LED. Motion-sensing deck light.

Person - Know where you're going. Seek advice. Don't go into skeevy areas.

You have to meet the level of threat.

Avoid threat= don't go there

Prevent threat= blinkie lights, good locks/illumination

Meet threat 1. Wasp spray/bear spray
2. Blunt object, baseball bat etc.
3. Edged weapon
4. Fire arm

You need training to use weapons, edged and firearm. You can get in trouble and end up dead or in jail defending yourself. TRUST ME ON THIS. If you are dead set on a firearm, I suggest a shot gun. 12ga rounds come in non-lethal to hull punching-big-hole rounds.

When government protection is not available, situational awareness is your best defense.

I used a 9volt $10 Radio Shack trip wire alarm a lot. You just attach it to one side and run a heavy fish line to the other side (usually in the cockpit or swim step area) When someone trips it the alarm goes off.... it's REALLY loud! At least you know they are coming or if you are ashore your neighbors know someone is on your boat....
Other than that a strong, powered, fish spear sounds like a good idea...

There are many threads on this subject.
1. Situational awareness.
2. Don't visit dangerous places.
3. Have a plan.
4. In the US, carry a gun onboard and know how to use it. I recommend an AK47 with five extra mags or a 12g shotgun
5. Where guns are not allowed, have several survival knives and tactical tomahawks onboard... And know how to use them.
6. And most important, lock up your door and the dinghy. Or better yet, haul it up each night.

You cannot have personal security on your boat unless you have armed guards. Armed guards equipped with the most lethal and effective tools that are legal in your jurisdiction. Is the only solution. It may even be desirable to encourage local violent criminals to hang around as they will deter petty thieves.
