a thought ...

if a person lived in one of those increasingly rare areas where one could live in almost anything ...

what about the idea of buying a decent, non sailworthy, decent sized(30'+), sailboat(or powerboat), for next to nothing and moving it to a tract of land with a well & septic(and maybe electric) ...

and LIVE on it .. or in it, I suppose.

maybe even buy 2 cheap boats and build a walkway between them, like having separate living quarters.

If one could get past the "planning commission", and such, wouldn't this be cheap as all get out?

BTW, would this still be considered "living aboard"?

And then build a shed to protect them from the weather.
Otherwise, boats need continuous maintenance to be dry inside and keep the weather out.
A non-sailworthy boat can be a sieve for rain.

Probably be cheaper to buy a land yacht (trailer, rv).

Or even cheaper to just build the shed.

This would be land living.

Why buy a sailboat just to make it stationary? Buy/build a houseboat or trailer as suggested. Both are cheaper and roomier. Better suited for most live aboards I've known. Not sure why many buy sailboats.

I've seen bare hull ( 35-40 powerboat ) upside down used as sheds/barns.

Don't see why not, it could be fun, but houseboats or motorboats would be more comfortable. Along the same line of thoughts, I have seen people convert old airliners into homes. Including one I had seen on a barge in Ft Lauderdale some years ago.
