Bleach spray bottle

I find a spray bottle of diluted bleach to be very handy for cleaning aboard the boat. However, I have never found a sprayer that lasts. It seems that the bleach makes the squeeze mechanism fail after a few months. Has anyone found a solution? Thanks.

Re: Bleach spray bottle

The only hand trigger bottle that I have found to last are the 99 cent ones at Walmart, located in the household cleaning brush section. I've tried many different sources and price ranges and they always die in a few months as you experienced. The Walmart ones are a year old and pumping just fine.

Re: Bleach spray bottle

Try more dilute mix.

I have had the same problem in the past, and suspect I put too much bleach in the small bottles. Less bleach, more water may make the sprayer last longer.

I use a very dilute mix (in a cheap spray bottle) for occasional spray and wipe of kitchen surfaces, handles or doorknobs, bathroom cleaning etc.

And, I suspect people tend to use too much bleach anyway. It is powerful stuff.

Re: Bleach spray bottle

They make commercial quality sprayers that are sold at home depot. They are much more robust! The also sell them on Amazon...

Re: Bleach spray bottle

You may be too strong a mix. About a tablespoon to1/4 cup of bleach in a 40 gal tank of water kills most if I remember right.

Re: Bleach spray bottle

After you're finished using it to clean try taking the spray head off, inserting the pickup straw in clean water and giving it a few good pumps. This will flush out the pump and make it last a lot longer.

Phantom's procedure is my pracice too! Also, if I'm spraying a caustic mix like diluted oxalic acid for rust stains, etc. then I store the remaining fluid in another safe container and leave the spray bottle rinsed and empty until the next use.
