Re: Bimini Trip

Check Passage Weather for Gulf Stream speed. Avoid crossing with any northerly wind factor. Before you leave Florida, replace your anchor with a Mantus or Rocna. The Delta anchor will not hold in the Bahamas. Plan on a daylight arrival.

Re: Bimini Trip

Thanks

we are upgrading to a mantis anchor. I will get a 55# just for peace of mind.
Also an epirb for safety.
I was looking at passage weather.
i have a 3 foot vhf antenna on a 48 foot mast.

I was planning on getting a data card in bimini so I can get weather online.
How else to get weather over there?
Thank you all for the responses.
We are in no hurry, waiting for a weather window to go over, then moving around we will wait for favorable weather also.

Re: Bimini Trip

Another question to ask you all. I was reading about routes etc in the bahamas. I currently have navionics plus for the bahamas. Many people have commented that they are not accurate. Are they usable if I also plot along with a paper chart?

DO NOT RELY on Navionics in the Bahamas. Use Explorer Charts and enter their waypoints into your plotter. If you do a search you'll learn a lot about Navionics in the Bahamas.

Re: Bimini Trip

As far as weather goes if you have a Bahamian SIM card you'll be fine. Most of the time you can rely on Windfinder and on overnight passages Passage Weather.

So my plotter is a raymarine es127. I have avionics bahamas.
I also have c-map but not the detailed bahamas version.
Is my best bet to upgrade to the bahamas c-map?
it looks like it will transfer all my routes.

thanks in advance

Re: Bimini Trip

Get the Jeppesen C-Map charts of the Bahamas. They use Explorer data. Forget the Navionics.
