Best Places to Hang in Key West?

Hello all. I hope this is in the right forum...!

I live in Key Largo and heading down to KW for the first time (on my own boat) and wanted to know what the best options for me are. I assume we are going to anchor but want to make sure it is safe. Are their good mooring balls that are priced right?

Heading down this Thursday and staying for a week. Have a 44' catamaran.

Lastly - any tips on where to anchor for the fireworks? Heard they are amazing if you are in the right spot...!_steve

Re: Best Places to Hang in Key West?

Everyone seems to be packed around the Turtle Kraals and this would be my choice too. Anchorages are packed tight. If you have a good dinghy for a ittle distance, I would recommend the NW side of Wisteria Island. If you are confident with your ground tackle, there are some spots just north of Fleming Key Cut, but the holding is not as good. The mooring balls are good if you can find one, but "priced right" is a personal judgement. I've enjoyed all three of these options, but I haven't been there in two years. Others might have more current opnions. Check out the anchorage at Bahia Honda on your way down or back,- beautiful.
