Re: Best bedding for Liveaboards

nice and latex do not go hand in hand.
latex is an inferior natural rubber to which over 75 percent of earths population has some degree of allergy.
it is strange to see the return to this inferior material after all these years of watching the conversions to other less allergenic materials.

good luck with your killer latex beds. i wont have latex on my boat in any form--but, then i am one who shows severe allergic reaction to the substance.

there are so many superior products without latex in them..

Re: Best bedding for Liveaboards

You are so right Z, forgot about Latex Allergy. I have not had any issues, the latex has its cover, then topper, then mattress pad, sheets.

My nursing jobs all used non latex stuff, so not heavily exposed like some nurses are/were. Anyways, very good point about recommending a latex mattress, I should be sure to caveat with a latex allergy caution.

Should read before buying latex mattress

Tips to Remember: Latex Allergy | American Latex Allergy Association

Plus even if you are not allergic now, you can always develop an allergy.

Thanks Z, excellent point!!

Re: Best bedding for Liveaboards

Moving onto the boat I had 2 conditions. 1- Internet 2- good bed.

Bedding has been a evolving process figuring out what works and what doesn't. We bought some old "foam" toppers on craigslist for $50 (queen size) and cut them in half and split them between two of our sleeping areas. We recently bought another (Amazon.com: Queen Size 4 Inch Thick, 5 pound Density Visco Elastic Memory Foam Mattress Pad Bed Topper Made in the USA: Health & Personal Care) and its been AMAZING. Holly cow what a difference. I was just thinking to myself this morning that I have the most comfortable bed in the world with this added layer. Each person is different so I liked this "layering" to find the right firmness. Since we got it every person who has visited the boat has complimented us on how well it feels (my sleeping area doubles as a "couch" as the table is dropped down for more of an open feeling.

Yes, sleeping on a boat in a comfy bed, rocking you to sleep, boat creaking now and then, lapping of water against the hull...heaven!!

Re: Best bedding for Liveaboards

We are strongly considering one of these sleep systems - especially for the V-berth.

We did put a memory foam topper on our bed - those cushions were as hard as a Mexican resort bed, nearly break your back. If the system linked above makes it easy to keep the bed looking nice and works like advertised, that may be a nice solution.
