Question Berths in the Charleston, SC area

Hi, we are currently berthed in Mississipi, but would like to move the boat to the Charleston area in January, weather permitting, prior to crossing to the Mediterranean in May. Looking for adive regarding berths in the Charleston area from February on and also need to haul out for a time to check everything and probably re antifoul. Any advice welcome.

Cheers

There are half a dozen marinas in and around Charleston. You will be able to get to all of them except Ashley Marina (I think they're turning this into a dockominium) where there's a bridge about 55' high. Be ready for a shock when it comes to cost! Charleston Harbour at Patriot's Point and City Marina on the Ashley River would be your best bet. There are a couple of yards around but not many DIY yards. I am not familiar with the yards. If you're staying on the boat you can anchor just off the City Marina or take a mooring ball (City Marina again). It's kind of cold to be heading up to Charleston in January. Other possibilities might be in Beaufort, SC. if you're set on SC. Prices might be a bit better. Of course, Charleston's nicer if cost isn't a consideration.

Thanks, I thought that Charleston would be a good jumping off point for a pond crossing and as you say, due to the weather, it would be a bit chillier further north. Also easier reached by air as I have to return to work in Europe every other month and SWMBO would probably be happier left in a marina at that point. However I will take a look at your suggestions and see what I can come up with.

Cheers

oops, posted that twice.
Ok, anyone with suggestions for either of the Beauforts then or Port Royal. Bejasus has a mast height of 65ft above the water.

If you don't have to be right in Charleston, take a look at Bohicket Creek, just up the Edisto a short way.
