I never would of got that, I was thinking it must be some insurance claim thing. Renting a hotel room. Use of the word stateroom, cabin or berth would of made it clear.

So, now that your muddy question has been cleared up a little, NO, that is not a normal practice, and would not be condoned by most marinas or insurance companies.

Oh, I forgot. You don't want to have insurance. Might be good to have when your "renter" trips on a poorly stowed line and breaks his neck.

i have sold a half share of one of my boats,works great,my partner pays for the mooring,and i pay for the maintanance,we share the work if the bottom needs painting,technical stuff i do.

totally legal if we wanted to keep it in a marina and have shared usage.

works great if you can find the right person.

One possibly important variable is whether the boat remains fixed in one place or leaves its mooring or slip to go places. If the latter, then its operator would likely run afoul of the rules regulating commercial carriage of passengers for hire and requiring the operator to be commercially licensed as a professional captain (master or operator). If only the former, then it's the more usual considerations of insurance, marina rules, compatibility of the "tenant", regulations defining substandard housing and tenant rights, access for the disabled, etc.

Then there are some special considerations for boats being different from houses. Here's a fun scenario: Your "tenant" brings recreational drugs aboard and the local water cops or Coast Guard come a-boarding (unlike for houses on land, they don't need no steenkeen search warrants for a boat). Did someone say asset forfeiture? Oh that was your home that just got confiscated? Bummer.

One way out that could work might be a legitimate, legally correct partnership or cost-sharing agreement. Of course, this can still have problems, but with a lot of planning and following some really good advice it could have a chance to work.

In the case of Roshika, it's the whole boat that's rented nightly, not just a cabin, and the boat is not allowed to be moved from its mooring, so the owner at least doesn't have to worry about the carriage of passengers issues. It's somewhat similar to "boat and breakfast" operations, which do exist.
