On our 2nd year of
insurance, i called for a minor coverage (few hundreds bucks) out of an illness to an (unpaid) crew
member who, after two weeks of growing concerns, was finally hospitalized, undergoing a light, yet delicate, eye surgery.
All is well documented.
No, it wasn't a boom smashing, or a vicious sheet...but something (injury) which occurred on board!
It is not up to me to guess whether it was an illness, an affection, or trauma.., whether it developed because of non-nautical factors, or before embarking,... because, in the end, it affected my crew, my cruising, my relationship, all of which i feel responsible for.
Crew had to abandon ship and fly in urgency back home, 2000miles away.
The Insurer?
I was told Niet, as initially it looked to them as a paid- up crew (not applicable, but even if, SO WHAT!?)
Then the Claims dept. confirmed the non applicability of coverage, w/o explaining why...yet asking for another application form (why? Puzzled...)
I read it all. Major exclusions pertains chartering, regattas, vicious activities, relevant seas, troubled areas.
The
contract even covers the crew when ashore for up to 48h! They say... Really?
Conclusions:
I wanted peace of mind for anyone onboard, no matter what!
I SEE PANTAENIUS IS NOT GIVING ME THIS.
...and wasting my time, too.
Money (250eur/year, no more).
Now:
Can anyone suggest me any relevant/smooth alternative for
Europe ?
Kind regards to all
