When we were farewelled, we did leave the marina berth, but we were within a few hours sail of a reasonable anchorage before really leaving. Stopping like that allowed us to stow all the gifts that people had brought. Even though we had asked people to only give us music, they still brought many other items.

So, what I'm wanting to get across is the idea that you and they need you to go, and I hope you have a quiet, just the two of you celebration planned for the first night out.

May 29 can be still very cold up there. We had frost on the deck mid May when we came to take her over, in Gothenburg, 2003...

! ADVICE: Make as much Southing as you reasonably can, soonest !

We have a contract on our house and it will no longer be ours very soon. We are downsizing to a small apartment and starting our liveaboard boat search this summer after sailing in the Caribbean this summer. Next year for us!

ann - we've told everyone that we lack nothing (except a bunch of boat things we need to buy ourselves) so they should nto bring gifts. there is a very old danish custom amongst seamen. Many a song has been written about having Kronborg castle to port - signifying that you are leaving and don't know when or if you'll return. terribly sad songs. conversely there a many a song that has been written about having Kronborg casstle to starboard, signifying that you have made it home again and within a day or so you'll be in your family's arms again.

we want to sail past Kronborg our first day (it is about 4 hours from our berth)

but we can lay in there.
