Re: Anchor Apps

Found it, thanks, I quiet often drop quiet a few marks at the boat position when anchored to keep track of where the boat excursions to and delete a lot of them by right clicking but never noticed the anchor alarm function down the bottom. Looks like I need to read the instructions again. Fantastic program OpenCPN.

Re: Anchor Apps

We tried out Anchor Watch. It worked well for us. Simple and a loud alarm.

I do recall when I first got a smartphone that Google Maps would allow you to download up to 5 areas for offline use. For reasons best known to them this ended with an update a few years ago, big mistake in my opinion. Perhaps a developer can code this feature back into an anchor app? or use the same maps that OSMAnd+ uses offline
That functionality has returned. touch the 3 _ mark next to the search bar, Choose offline areas, click the +, select the area you want it to cache and hit download.

Re: Anchor Apps

I use my radar for my anchor watch.

I put a piece of clear plastic film over my radar screen, and I use felt marker pens to outline shore line and any outstanding features that show up on radar.

If the boat drags anchor in the dark, I can assess the situation in the dark and my radar eyes tell me what to do.

I am more comfortable with that than relying on GPS. I do not want to experience a GPS assisted grounding.

I hardly ever use the GPS for anchor watch. Maybe I need to do it more often and get comfortable.
