2 Inexperienced Girls Wanting to Work Hard and Travel

Hello everyone,

Me and my friend are new to this site and wanted some advice on how to become part of a crew. We are both 23 and wanting to get our there and travel. We are both very dedicated and don't mind rolling up our sleeves and working. I was just wondering the best way to go about getting a job on a boat. We really just want to get some experience and see the world. If anyone has any suggestions please leave a message. Thank you

Where are you and What is your back-ground/ work experience?
Working on yachts you need an STCW course as a starter or as a minimum.
If you girls just want to bum rides on private boats and help with cooking and cleaning and sailing, etc, go to Fort Lauderdale or St. Thomas and hang out in the bars or the waterfront letting folks know you are available.
Or do what you are doing: Intenet sailing forums and get ready for a quick offer to crew from here to there.

Assuming they are in the US.

Might want to post it in the Crew Positions forum instead of the Liveaboard Forum.

I agree with tomfl. Also, before posting in the "crew positions" forum read some past posts to become accustomed to the type of positions and expectations. Welcome to the community.

Gee, Atoll, maybe these two women actually have something to offer the world besides "bikini shots", but thanks for addding that nice touch of male chauvinism to the thread. It really classes up the joint.

Re: 2 Inexperienced Girls Wanting to Work Hard and Travel

As others have said, you may wish to post in the crew available area. Be sure to note where you are, what your boating or other relevant experience is, and what you wish to do (what crew position, and geographically where).

Your post says you are interested in "a job" -- depending on your experience, you may wish to take non-paying crew positions to bolster your sailing resume.

unfortunately the sailing industry is a pretty much male dominated industry.

i was hanging out in palma d'mallorca yesterday with the "gilma "supermaxi crew, onboard were 5 blokes, and one very tough looking girl.

i have 2 girlfriends who are superyacht captains, but they are exceptions ,rather than the norm.

i dont mean to be sexist, but in my experince most girls entering the industry with no qualifications, generally do it by sleeping with the captain or engineer so as to get their first job,and foot in the door.............
