Young hearts Sailing From South oz to West oz!

We are a young couple from south Australia and are planning to sail our 37ft wharram catamaran to west oz and beyond where ever the wind blows!
Is there anyone that has sailed from the east to west with some pointers of the great australian bight (best time to go) and western australia. We are looking for a book of some description to show all Anchorage's etc, What would be best.
Thanks! BLESS.

Hannah & James

Haven't sailed the GAB but those who have suggest E to W is best done during mid-summer when the highs drop low enough to create eastlies along the coast. Anchorages are few and far between and are really only safe in mild weather - when you don't exactly need them!

Albany is the first genuine port of refuge in WA and has a all weather approach as well as full protection from all weathers.

February.... prevailing winds are easterly in the head of the Bight... lots of good sailing around the Esperance area.

Good luck with it ...

HI Hannah. Welcome, and sure is hard to go the other way over summer, towards Tassie, too many south easterlies. Those wharrams are great boats. Cheers

Welcome to CF from the East Coast.

Not much to add on that passage sorry, except to wish you luck.
If you have not already check out Jack and Jude if I recall correctly they have done that passage at least once in that direction. I know that they did at least produce a guide to anchorages in SA and that if you contact Jack he will most probably go out of his way to give you as much help as he can.
