Waterproof & Tearproof Charts?

I ordered the Explorers "Bahamas Overview" chart. The ad said it was "waterproof and tearproof". The chart seems awful thin to me? I cannot imagine that thin chart being either! Anybody had any experience with these charts? I would be afraid to write on it too??!!

Go to Fedex. Ask them for a big Tyvek overnight envelope. That's the same material many waterproof and tearproof charts are made of, and if you can tear that, good luck. odds are you will split a fingernail from trying to, and that's gonna hurt.

And yes, there are better materials for the purpose, but offhand I can't think of one to have you take a fast look at.
