upper mobile bay

Motoring south on the Tenn-Tom in September, and would like to avoid the mess in mobile bay . I have no problem with 16' vert. clearance so I thought I'd take the Tensaw cutoff at mile 10 to the Tensaw river, south around the west side of Gravine Island , then south to the Blakeley River and into the east side of Mobile Bay.
Anyone have experience with this route? Suggestions? Dire warnings?
Thanks
