South Shores Of Puerto Rico

Hello All,
We're looking for a nice and affordable marina or boat slip to park our 40/40 Freedom sailboat for December and January.
We'll be sailing from Luperon to the area of Gua Nica by the end of this month (November).
Open for any and all suggestions, tips etc etc!
Thanks, Bird

Hello, cabo rojo is nice and has a marina. Not sure the price.salinas has a marina and good anchorage. Ponce has the club nautico
If you end up in fajardo sea lovers in sardinera and isleta marina are the most afordable.
but if you are un fajardo mights as well go to culebra and anchor for free.

Re: south shores of Puerto Rico

I guess salinas would be your best choice. Ive weathered two hurricanes there. Don't be afraid to put two hooks if marina has no room on the docs. You can also get a dock at Ponce. Guanica is too weird, its a great little fiord in terms of protection but no cruisers or marinas. People leave boats in la-parguera as well, I've never personally stayed there but few friends have.
Is Bruce Van Sandt still down there? His book would have had all this info in detail.

Appreciate all the replies thusfar.
Yes, Bruce van Sant is still in Luperon. When we landed there in June he was the one answering our radio call.
We have -of course- all the cruising guides but like to know all the other personal experiences.
Thanks, Bird

Re: South Shores Of Puerto Rico

We stopped at Palmas del Mar and WOW -- we are not marina lovers and per our cruising guide it is an anchorage but we found an entire marina -- we were going to fajorado(sp) but decided to stay here and really glad we did as we rented a car one day and drove over there - big difference --
rates are very reasonable and security is incredible

just our thoughts and opinion

Bird,

There is good information on your area of interest at Activecaptain.com. You'll need to register (free, but discourages spammers) but once registered, there is a wealth of information that we have found very useful.

Good Luck!
