Sailing from Guimaras to Subic

Tomorrow I will cast off and sail through the Philippines to Subic from my home mooring in Guimaras. Will be repairing and refitting the Windrush.

Any sugestions on the routing? I would like to stop at Masbate, Romblon, Mindoro and Cavite.

Re: Sailing from Guimaras to Subic

Divers like sailors are a welcoming bunch. If you're in no rush and you dive, why not spend some time in Anilao Batangas.
There's a fabulous cave in "Mapating" that requires technical skills, but your reward would be the resident flashlight fishes that zip past you as you foray into the longer front tunnel.
Have Fun, be safe.

Re: Sailing from Guimaras to Subic

Hi Rob,
Great to hear you are heading up to Subic, which has been my home base for 10 years.

Just got back from West Coast Palawan (Port Barton).. .as we discussed before.

Recommended stops:
This time of year the weather can be quite variable as depressions can either enhance the SW monsoon or create NNE headwinds on your planned route thru the Visayas.

Looking ahead by Friday (13th) a depression is forming in S China sea, so you should get good SW winds up towards Marinduque after Masbate and Romblon.

Just above Romblon is Banton island which is a fair weather anchorage but quite special with natural hot springs, real nice walk and great people

Top NW bay in Marinduque is a good anchorage and a good stop to time Verde Pass currents for your approach to Puerto Galera.

I lived in PG for 7 years and the yacht club is really friendly and helpful.

From PG to Subic, my guess is by then you will be wanting to just get to Subic, so a rest stop, anchoring in Hamilo cove is what I would do to break up the 90nm trip from PG to Subic

Main thing is to know where the better Typhoon shelters are enroute and watch weather carefully this time of year.

Re: Sailing from Guimaras to Subic

Hi Rob,

Was in Romblon earlier this year. Moored up at the Romblon yacht club. 2 deep water moorings and also a couple of stern-to moorings. Pull up alongside and ask for Angelique. She lives next door and is always ready to help.

Great little club with fresh water for the boat, showers and cold beer. Very welcoming!

Not sure of your timeline but if you’re in PG 3rd to 5th November it’s the All Souls regatta. Great event for cruisers and racers.

Cheers,

Andy

Re: Sailing from Guimaras to Subic

Last night i stopped in Estancia. Not the best place to hang out. Very busy fishing port. This morning i left for Roxas and arrived at about 5pm and tied up along a barge that was being working on. The channel comming into the fishing port looks wide but is not and the deep area is not marked. Good thing one of my charts had it correct.
The guys on the barge were very welcoming and happy to assist.

Re: Sailing from Guimaras to Subic

I came into Romblon last night from Roxas. Was beating to windward for 12 hours. Pretty tiring, but happy to be tied up at the Romblon Yacht Club. Today i moved the boat and stern tied to the rock wall. Will be here for awhile since i cannot haul out in Subic until November.

Re: Sailing from Guimaras to Subic

The mooring here in Romblon can get weather so we hooked on 2 moorings and 6 lines to the wall.
