Re: Sailing around the world

Some one else suggested a few brands.. You should also look at Wharrams. I think they still hold the "never a capsize" claim. Which is impressive and should keep your nervy boss happy. You should be able to get one within budget . They traditionally have less room inside than similar size cats though. But a 38 would still have enough room for 4 to live and play.

Re: Sailing around the world

Just an update for those who care. For a year now we have looked at boats and planned our lives for the plunge. I think I have the wife convinced to get a monohull and not a cat. She really liked the space and room much better. Things are falling into place :}

Cazam,

Good on you both. "weavis" has started a thread called "the frugal sailor" that might be of some interest.

Re: Sailing around the world

Just an update on our dream of sailing. Currently we decided to go with a monohull. After getting our ASA 101-104 we loved the sailing experience and loved the open area of the mono…. and yes, monohulls are better on our pocket book.
We are looking at several boats in the San Diego area this weekend. We really like the Beneteaus and the Hunters. Not sure if it will take us around the world, but it’s a start. So far all looks good for a fall or spring boating adventure. Just need to get the wife some swimming lessons.... really, she can't swim and wants to sail around the world

Re: Sailing around the world

Way to keep the dream alive while continuing to adjust your expectations to figure out what might work in reality! I bought my boat more than 3 years ago in San Diego. It was such a scary step, with so much to learn and I couldn't be happier. Keep us posted on the boat searches. I'm sure a few of us would be happy to offer up some opinions
