Re: Sailing around the Farallon Islands from San Francisco

9 people in total. 3 threw up, 2 of them were fine afterwards. Waves about 6 to 8ft and wind gusting to 20 maybe 25kts. Everyone was happy with the trip and we saw 1 blue whale. That pictures make the water look extremely calm for some reason.

Re: Sailing around the Farallon Islands from San Francisco

A blue whale! Damn! I've heard of people seeing them recently (in San Francisco coastal waters), but I've never had the good luck. Humpbacks and Greys are quite common in that area, and I've seen sperm whales north of Hawaii. I think we saw a Minke whale once. We brushed up against a humpback once, about 50 miles beyond the Golden Gate. We caught it on video: http://www.sailvalis.com/Pac%20Cup%2...ages/Whale.mpg

OK, 20 kts and 6-8ft seas is on the high end of typical. Those conditions will definitely will identify the people with seasickness. The waves never look as big on film. Not fair, but that's a fact.
