Hobart, Australia to Wellington, New Zealand

We are currently near Adelaide, heading to Hobart for Christmas. Then once the wind is in the right direction we are going home....(after six years away cruising in Asia)
Any one with any helpful hints or going in our direction
Feel free to send us an email

Why are you heading from Tassy wouldn't Sydney be the preferred port to leave from as arnt you more likely to get better winds.

Do you have a blog 6 years is a long time I would think it would take some adjusting after so long visiting the world.

Did Launceston Nelson a few years ago, left early March after a front with a nice big high behind it passed through, good trip, a bit of easterly at end so make some northing as you come across to give a better wind angle coming into Tasman Bay, if you clear into Nelson you can have a leisurely few days in the Marlborough sounds before Wellington

Re: Hobart Australia to Wellington New Zealand

We did it some years ago. a week before we left we had another friend doing it and they had a frontal system with 90kts. I would not have believed it except they had video panning the wind instruments, showing 80 dead downwind with 10 kts of boat speed under bare poles.

So, before we left we button-up our boat as tightly as she has even been. And then . . . our max wind was a gust to 12kts, mostly 5-6kts. Code zero the whole way.

So you just never know what you will get down there.

Check out Port Davy in Tasi - terrific place.

SCTPC...thanks. The reason we are leaving from Hobart is because we are having Xmas with cruising friends. We do have a very amateur blog, it needs to be added to but enjoy

Re: Hobart, Australia to Wellington, New Zealand

Hi

Would you be at all interested in taking an extra passenger from Hobart to Wellington...?

Basically I've travelled over land from Northern Ireland to Singapore, am awaiting a ship to Australia, and was hoping to do the final crossing to NZ via yacht. I'm 31, female, and from Northern Ireland although I've lived in NZ for over 5 years (my sister still lives in Wellington).

I have sailed quite a lot, mostly dinghies, although I did quite a bit of racing out of Westhaven and completed the Coastal Classic in 2005. I also have my "Competant Crew" certificate. :0)

Anyway, I appreciate that this is a long shot but thought that I would try my luck when I saw your posting.

Regardless of response, all the best with your trip.

Cheers

Leah

p.s. I'm due in Melbourne around the 22 Dec.
