This week we're in Key West & the storms haven't quit training yet from a stalled front just south of us - major flooding in S FL - I heard the other night there was the 6th most rain ever in one day a few days ago. Here's hoping the weather will allow you a long enough window to enjoy your adventure! But winter in the Keys isn't far enough south to escape the twice weekly northers. Buena Suerte!

I wonder what they have done in the six years since they asked?

Re: Fort Myers to Dry Tortugas via Boot Key Harbor and Key West

Went there in 2009,direct from St Pete on our maiden voyage in to a 3 year cruise. the last night before we reached Ft Jefferson it was like sailing trough the well lit city. There were hundreds of fishing boats, lights everywhere. Dry Tortugas are magical, but 2 hours after we dropped the hook the northerly hit it hard and everybody there stay put for at least a week. The very shallow water around can kick up a big nasty waves, not safe for the small vessels

Although I readily admit that I considered a similar response, it's still a relatively inexpensive "shot." Meanwhile I'm struggling to recall how often I made the same error as the current responder.

Life is too short, sport.

Ah well,
I am offended you consider my reply a "shot".
If I am trying to find an out of business business, I appreciate someone letting me know so I don't waste my time. Life is too short, as you say.

Re: Fort Myers to Dry Tortugas via Boot Key Harbor and Key West

6 years old or not, I am planning a trip direct from Ft Myers to Dry Tortugas on the AM of 29 Dec. weather permitting. I appreciated reading the views here, even if they were old.

Oh, 2009 Leopard 37 PowerCat, twin Yanmar 110's. With dinghy and o/b, and a life raft (LOL). And If you want to ask ask what my range is and if I have AIS and SSB and 6 weeks of water don't bother answering. 😃

David,

With your equipment it really is a no brainer. Check (click on) Passage Weather before your planned departure to ensure you'll have a decent weather window and if so, go for it.

Now, about your AIS and SSB...
