Crazy much. Do the math

(firstly, I have not posted this with the intention of creating a religious discussion. Rather its about the planning or lack there of)

Before being caught by the police, these guys were going to take a single engine, old and tired speed boat from the northern tip of Aus to The Philippines.
https://au.news.yahoo.com/vic/a/3160...error-is-plot/

Its a journey of 1500 miles. Given that they would at best get about 50Litres ph at an average speed of, say, 20 knots, they would have taken around 75 hours to get to their destination. Requiring 3750 Litres.

I accept that they would have had to make stops, but just the journey from Cape York to Papua alone would have needed some 400 Litres plus. Thats some 20 jerry cans bouncing around the cockpit.

They should have packed another slab of bottled water at least.

Douglas Mc Arthur did it the other way?

Were they going to the Philippines or just over to Papua or New Guinea?

They were ultimately heading to Syria. But due to already having had their passports confiscated, they were trying to get to some contact in the Philippines I believe. I am not really sure if they intended taking that boat all the way or catching other transport once in Indo'.

My brother-in-law has a similar size boat. It's built in tank holds 80gal (320l). If we accept your numbers, that would cut it to 4 jugs assuming zero reserve. Still a dumb idea but fuel jugs aren't the big issue.

All I can think of is he blues brothers...we're on a mission from god.

I doubt they could carry enough fuel to get to Papua from Weipa (where I presume they were heading). Not the brightest bunch of blokes, they would have stood out like dog's balls there. Should have went to Darwin and from there to East Timor, about half the distance.

Re: Crazy much. Do the math

Obviously no Mensa members in that bunch but perhaps the hair brained idea was to leapfrog between the Torres Strait Islands then turn left at Papua.

Still think they should have let them go. However the idea of them leavin from DARWIN has a certain irony!

Re: Crazy much. Do the math

Cannon fodder to be sure. Have you heard how many of these young men have been slaughtered by the combination of Euro, American, Russian, Iraqi,Kurds, and Syrian military?

The thing that amazes me the most is the susceptibility of these young men and women to religious leaders who sell them a bill of goods that I just can't comprehend why they believe it. The one thing I am sure about is that the Muslim Zealots can't be defeated by military methods. Perhaps we can contain their thrust but the core issues of why and what they do must be addressed to bring it back to a more normal state.

The unemployment in Muslim countries is alarming. I've read something like 30-40 percent in some areas. The royal family of Saudi...etc....lavish lifestyles..jetsetting, sexual escapades, forbidden practices, and no one can get a job. Western occupation on Muslim lands has been a flash point since the Crusades...and biblical for thousands of years. I've seen it with my own eyes and felt their hatred as they looked upon me. We do not belong there. They are not too shy to let you know it either.

Re: Crazy much. Do the math

The shame about all this is that they didn't get to leave and then have their passports cancelled.
Stateless! Who cares?
I've lived in some of parts of Northern Oz where this type stick out more and more the remoter it gets.
The real truth is that they wouldn't have lasted a day on the water before getting seriously noted by the coast guard in that part of the world.
