cairns to indonesia

Hi, we are on our 45' cat leaving coming week (13 May) to Indonesia.
3 POB. - which is the better: going via Papua N.G. or Darwin-Kupang?

Who has done the tour and can give advice re. comfort against speed?

Thanky, Ray

Hi

We did this trip in 2011' from Cairns to and thru Indonesia. We went inside the Reef to Thursday Island, then to the Spice Islands. We cleared in at Ambon, after the Spice islands.

Lots of details on our blog, searchable: http://sv-grace.blogspot.com

Have a great time!

Re: cairns to indonesia

Surely it will depend on just where in Indonesia you want clear in and then visit and perhaps also on your onward ports thereafter.

For instance, coastal cruising Papua is not for the faint hearted but can be considered if you really want to go to say Maluku and then north but if Java and westwards is you aim, go via Darwin. (IMHO).

These guys have done the trip, http://sv-totem.blogspot.com.au/

We hope to follow in their wake later this year.

Lots of good information on their site, also look at noonsite.

Good luck with the trip whatever route you take will be the right one

Re: cairns to indonesia

Hi Ray,

PNG requires a bit of planning so probably too late to be in the consideration set.

Knowing nothing about your desired destination except "Indonesia" (big place!) or your priorities except fast/comfortable, PNG probably wouldn't be the right route for you anyway. Just have to consider weather.

We loved going though PNG. As Jon said, not for the faint of heart, and requires a bit of planning. Lots of info on our site, plus updates I am sending to Noonsite. Feel free to PM questions, we have decent Internet access from Bali this week.

Best, Behan
