Buddy Boat - Beaufort, NC to FL

Hello all:

We will be looking for options South out of Beaufort, NC in September for Destination ?

Although we have never "buddy boated" before we thought we'd throw this up for takers? We are on an Island Packet 40 and have no schedule or end destination.

We live aboard, our boat our home. We will look to be Bahama bound in October or November -- weather permitting.

We are conservative in our approach.

Regards

Re: Buddy Boat Beaufort, NC to FL

Hello -

I recently purchased an IP38 in Oriental, NC. I am a newby. As of now I am planning on hiring a captain to help take us to the Bahamas (Abaco Islands)...and build my confidence level up. I'm planning on leaving the end of October (insurance wants me to stay in Oriental until 11/1). All plans are fluid.

We're in the Chesapeake heading for the Bahamas around Nov 1st. No schedule. We normally go on the outside to Ft Lauderdale. This year we wanted to take our time and go down the intracoastal but are unsure of what we will find in the aftermath of irene.

Re: Buddy Boat Beaufort, NC to FL

We came up all the way on the inside and plan to go down outside (backwards? whatever).

I heard a rumor yesterday that there may very well be some problems...I would expect them in the New River area, but Surf City to Wrightsville Beach was mentioned. Time will tell (and so will Boat US).

BTW The Admiral on this boat (Lea Ann) has an article published in this months Lats and Atts rag.

We just found out that the lock at Great Bridge has been damaged so we might have to head outside until Beaufort NC. Hope to see you out there.

water sailing">Blue Water Sailing is sponsoring a new free rally from Norfolk to Tortola leaving about Nov. 1. I expect the magazine's web site will be promoting it. Travel in company, reduced price dockage at both ends and pot luck suppers both ends. BWS is paying for the weather routing, among other perks.

Re: Buddy Boat - Beaufort, NC to FL

Hello again:

We (on Faith) had moved our boat to Wayfarer's Cove Marina for Irene and a haul out. Here it is September 1, and cool! Tom and Don are still taking care of facilities so I'm not sure exactly when we will haul.

This note just to let you know our September departure is up in the air. More likely end of September.

Just like a proper cruiser -- chipped in jello.

We are still intending to leave Beaufort bound for St Mary's inlet, hang out there for a bit, then on to West End or...??

We are leaving Maine tomorrow and heading for New Smyrna Beach Florida. We will do both the "inside" and some "out". We left St.Thomas Frbuary 26th and came all the up to Maine. Now we are heading back down. Only as far as Florida this year!! Hope to see some of you out there!!
