Best time to do Adelaide to Syd passage

Hi
Does any one know the most favourable time to make a passage from Adelaide to Sydney. The boat is a blue water motor sailer.
Thanks for any advice Neil

As long as you miss deep lows, it can be anytime. I used to go between Port Lincoln and Eden on tuna boats. It could be lovely or horrific at any season. Make sure you look at a nice big weather map and check out the weather to the west as to what is going to hit you as you hit shallow water between Tassie and the main land.

On that route are there many safe anchorages or ports of call?

Any time can be good. Check the local 4 day forecast and divide the trip into sections so unfavourable weather can be avoided.
We normally plan stops at Kangaroo Is, Portland, Wilson's Prom and Eden.

Jeff Toghill's book "Circumnavigating Australia's Coastline -1-" is a great source of general information regarding seasonal weather etc. This is available in most libraries even though quite dated.

Our last trip along this route was mid winter 2006, after spending a glorious Autumn in the Bight. Picking the weather from available sources for the short hops rarely presents a problem.

If you can pick a good SW in winter it is a great run from the prom. If you strike a SE for this section, give yourself plenty of sea room from Green Cape. Sometimes the currents can be a bit funny and it is not a nice lee shore from there to Twofold Bay. I've lost a few friends from that bit of coastline.
