I have a 36' Columbia and will be leaving Rockport TX to Kemah TX 14 Dec. Plan to go on the out side to Freeport then to ditch up to Kemah. Anyone have better Ideal. Please if you have chart or direction ton open sea let me know. Thanks

Why do you want to tuck into the ditch at Freeport? The run from Freeport to Galveston is free of rigs and well heads if I remember correctly. If you do go via the ditch be careful crossing Chocolate bay. In my experience the channel markers can be off station. Use the range markers on either side of the bay.

Good luck.

I agree with txcoastsailor. Rockport to Freeport is beautiful on the ICW. Freeport to kemah, not so much.

If the wind is on your nose, and it likely will be, you will be much better off in the ditch all the way.

That time of year I'd go inside except for the Freeport to Galveston stretch too. Then depending on the weather you may consider staying inside the whe way.

If a strong cold front is blowing the Freeport to Galveston run is an amazing flat water reach. The rest not so much fun.

I f I can get a beam reach of on more the 25 kts the outside is good. If more then it is the ditch. I will not run the ditch at night, to many tow boats.

"The Ditch" is a reference to the Intracoastal waterway. It's cut through shallows or land, and really is nothing other than a navigable ditch.
